TEL-AVIV, Israel and BOSTON, Mass - September 27, 2006 -
Dapei Zahav, Israel’s largest directory publisher, has launched its new Yellow Pages site, powered by ApproxiMatch search engine. The advanced search engine will improve the service quality by better “understanding” the user’s intent and delivering the most relevant results. ApproxiMatch software has been successfully deployed by the leading directory publishers in the U.S.A, Canada and Mexico.
“ApproxiMatch fuzzy search technology and machine learning features are uniquely suitable for online directory and local search applications” said Erez Shechter, ApproxiMatch founder and CEO. "People often associate Google with search, but local search is a very different problem and it require a very different solution. Whereas Google was built to solve information retrieval on the web, the ApproxiMatch fuzzy search engine was designed to provide the most relevant local results."
Fuzzy search is based on fuzzy logic formalism, which mimics the human ability to rapidly select the most relevant results from a large data set. Results are selected and ranked on the basis of contextual matching rather than repeated application of exact matching which is common to all other search engines.
“The deployment of our new website firmly establishes Dapei Zahav as Israel’s preeminent online directory”, said Nir Lampert, Dapei Zahav Group General Manager, “ApproxiMatch technology is critical to the company’s strategy to become the preeminent search portal for consumers and businesses in Israel”.
